Ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a rare condition defined by the fibro-osseous fusion of the articular surfaces. It can cause reduced mouth opening, resulting in functional limitations and impairment of facial growth. Treatment for ankylosis is surgical, thus limited on pediatric patients due to musculoskeletal growth.
