The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) may present several pathologies that require surgical ablative and reconstructive treatments. Of these pathologies, we can highlight the ankylosis, characterized by the progressive fusion of the articular surfaces. Puricelli Biconvex arthroplasty is one of the functional reconstruction techniques of the TMJ; it’s accomplish by the preparation of two semi-circles of self-curing methylmethacrylate. Puricelli’s Biconvex arthroplasty intentionally modifies the force vector derived from the action of masticatory muscles (anterosuperior direction) which act tangentially on the superior prosthetic surface forming a component of upper posterior forces that produce the stimulation and growth of the skull base.
